BETHLEHEM COLLEGE KINDERGARTEN
Our Teaching Philosophy
WE BELIEVE THAT RELATIONSHIP IS THE HEART OF LEARNING.
When children feel relaxed, loved and celebrated they become creative, playful and curious about the world. Our teacher’s develop a caring relationship with your child, helping them to learn, grow and thrive!
WE BELIEVE IN LEARNING THROUGH PLAY.
We believe that play is the most meaningful way young children learn. When children play they are exploring, experimenting, thinking, solving problems, forming relationships, being creative, using their imagination, learning by trial and error, planning and predicting and acting out situations that have meaning for them.
WE BELIEVE IN FOLLOWING YOUR CHILD’S FASCINATIONS.
Part of honouring each child as a gift to be discovered means encouraging the particular interests and fascinations each child has. Our teachers facilitate a flexible and responsive curriculum, incorporating child-initiated approaches by noticing and building on the inherent talents and interests of each child.
WE BELIEVE CHILDREN LEARN THROUGH POSITIVE INTERACTIONS WITH TEACHERS.
Our teachers facilitate purposeful play through learning conversations and record significant learning-in-play events in learning stories. Through the Te Whāriki framework we document, support, and extend children’s individual and group interests and strengths. Our learning programme encourages your child to develop independence and a sense of self-identity as a learner.
“When it comes to cultivating quality learning experiences for young children, relationship is the soil out of which everything grows.” LORRAINE SCHOU, BETHLEHEM EARLY LEARNING CENTRES MANAGER
Bethlehem College Kindergarten ERO Report, 2011
Children develop a sense of belonging at the kindergarten. They develop a belief in themselves as capable, competent learners, and their emotional wellbeing and independence are strongly promoted.

Teachers have established close, trusting and respectful relationships with children and their families. Communication is open and transparent, and families are welcome to stay and participate in their child’s education.

My rambunctious, full of life, four year old can't get enough of this kindy! The teachers and staff are very attentive and meet the needs of each child very well through patience, loving words and gentle guidance.
Beryl Bishop
I appreciate that the teachers take the time to get to know Hamish. They seem to spend individual quality time with him which is evident in his learning stories.
